2023 Race Team Coach

The Surrey Sailing Club is seeking a Race Team Coach to work with our Race programs for the 2023 season. We are one of the fastest-growing programs in Metro Vancouver. Our training fleet includes Club 420s, RS Fevas, Optimists, and Lasers. We believe in creating a supportive and collaborative environment to enable our coaches to deliver a quality program to our students.

 

Job Overview:

The Race Team Coach will be responsible for running both of our Race Teams; Race Team (C420, RS Feva, Laser) and Optimist Race Team with assistance and the support from Head Coach and Assistant Head Coach. Race Team Coach will be responsible for planning, executing, and assisting to manage all race programs at Surrey Sailing Club. This position has the potential to extend into next year if the applicant is a good fit with the program.

 

Training Schedule:

Winter training is on the weekends, then starting in April, training will be Monday/Wednesday/Friday evenings. Optimist Race team trains on Tuesday/Thursday evenings, starting in April. It will be expected as a Race Team coach to be able to attend all training sessions and regattas.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Run all Race Team training sessions with a high level standard

  • Attend all regattas with the team (provincial only)

  • Creating and executing appropriate lesson plans

  • Utilize the google platform (Gmail, docs, drive, sheets, etc)

  • Running classes of 6-18 students on land and on-water, with an additional coach

  • Ensuring the safety of all students and staff at all times

  • Class and boat prep, including coach boats

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of CANSail 5-6 Trained or Certified

  • Experience coaching race programs preferred

  • Race experience in Laser, C420, RS Feva, or Optimist considered an asset

  • All coaching pre-requisite courses (First aid, Coach boat safety, PCOC)

  • Three seasons of coaching experience preferred

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada

 

Compensation: 

We offer competitive wages that are commensurate with experience. Free parking is available onsite, and easy public transportation is available nearby. Instructor shirt uniforms are provided for daily work use.
